Every year, as the world is anticipating the holiday season, we have a little something else that we anxiously wait for. Since 2000, Pantone has been announcing a Color of the Year for the year ahead. Historically the color is chosen to reflect a mood or set of ideas of that time in society and it will influence all facets of design such as fashion, interior design and even food trends. Being in the wedding and corporate promotions industry, it’s kind of a big deal to us! So this year, when we found out that a fresh and natural tone like Greenery was chosen, we were over the moon and incredibly excited about what this meant. So what does it mean? Greenery signifies environmental awareness, nature, unity, new beginnings, positivity, growth, and even health consciousness. Laurie Pressman, the Pantone Color Institute’s vice president, told FORBES: “There’s a growing desire to reconnect with Nature and what is real and find ways to disconnect from technology. We need a break. We need to stop and breathe, (Greenery) is about unity and community—connecting to oneself and others and a higher purpose, Nature.” At Botanical PaperWorks, the foundation of our brand is about connecting with nature and making eco-friendly choices for the environment, so this choice holds a huge significance for us and, we hope, for everyone else. While going green and being environmentally aware isn't a new trend, it has reached a point where it is no longer about individual actions. It's bigger than that, it has to be part of a lifestyle. A set of beliefs and guiding principles that becomes part of you, not just a fad, but a life choice. Greenery may be getting its day in the sun as a Pantone's Color of Year, but its significance is endless. Nature has a way of reducing stress and rejuvenating the soul — greenery plays a huge role in that. Greens in general, are naturally easy on the eyes and have an uplifting quality so bringing them into your home and everyday life can have a very positive effect. From event decor to home decor and everything in between, we are thrilled we'll be seeing a lot more of this fresh and uplifting shade in 2017! What do you think of this year's choice?
