How Seed Paper Helped Bring “Garden of Growth” Theme to Life

When planning an event, even the smallest details often end up carrying the biggest meaning. For the RRC Polytech’s Creative Communications (CreComm) “Garden of Growth” celebration, that idea shaped nearly every decision, especially the printed materials guests would take home.

The event marked an important transition for students stepping into the communications industry, and the team wanted every touchpoint to reflect the moments of growth, change, and possibility. A standard, single-use printed program didn’t feel aligned with that vision. Instead, they looked for something that could extend the experience beyond the evening itself.

That’s where seed paper came in.

Turning a Paper Program into an Experience

Rather than a traditional printed program, the team chose seed paper through Botanical PaperWorks, transforming an event staple into something interactive. Each program was designed not just to provide information about the event, but to be planted.

Embedded with wildflower seeds, the paper could be placed and grown in soil after the event. Instead of being a disposable piece of paper, the seed paper program became part of the story the event was telling: growth doesn’t stop when the evening ends (or when the students complete their CreComm program).

When Guests Notice the Difference

The reaction from the attendees was immediate and genuine. Most guests were communications professionals, alumni, donors, and parents, many of whom are used to receiving a tradition printed program that quickly gets set aside. This time people paused.

The seed paper sparked conversation right away. Guests commented on how unexpected it was to see sustainability so naturally woven into the design of the event and noted how well the seed paper sponsorship aligned with the overall theme. One of the most telling responses was how many people chose to take home their programs, with some even asking for extras! Comments were also made about the quality of both the print design and the seed paper itself.

The feedback reinforced something the team had hoped from the beginning: the event felt intentional, elevated, and true to its purpose. The program, which is often seen as a formality, became a standout piece.

Behind the Scenes with Botanical PaperWorks

For a student-led team planning an event of this scale for the first time, the production process of the seed paper programs mattered just as much as the final result.

“The team at Botanical PaperWorks made the design process seamless. From the well-thought-out templates and the support from [the customer service team]. The experience was so smooth, and I would definitely consider reaching out to Botanical PaperWorks for any events that would align with your goals.” – CreComm student

What stood out about this experience is how something as familiar as a program can be reimagined into something more meaningful, sustainable, and impactful. Seed paper worked because it wasn’t just decorative or novel, it reinforced the theme in a way guests could physically take with them and interact with over time.

It’s a reminder that sustainability and impact don’t need to feel like add-ons when planning an event. It can be built directly in to the guest experience. Whether it’s a gala, conference, wedding, or corporate event, seed paper offers a way to turn printed materials into something that lives beyond the event itself. And that’s when the message will stick.
