MBlog 2014: Reflecting on my Blogging Journey

My Blogging Journey Begins

This past weekend I had the opportunity to speak at MBlog 2014 here in Winnipeg. It was a fantastic blogging conference and great time for me to reflect on my blogging journey. I consider myself an early adopter when it comes to online marketing and, right from the start, blogging caught my interest. I started on Blogger about 12 years ago before moving to TypePad where I first started my personal blog titled Stationery Scoop.

Speaking My Mind and Building a Community

In the early days, I began blogging to share my entrepreneurial journey and I quickly began connecting with a great community of people who shared common interests. It was a hobby, passion, networking tool and business builder all in one.

Blogging allowed me to speak my mind, connect with like-minded individuals and experiment with a digital marketing platform on the rise. I worked from a set schedule, I set rules for myself (never allowing my family to be a part of the story) and I had fun doing it.

Transitioning from Personal to Corporate Blog

As the company grew, the messaging evolved from my personal journey to the journey of the company. At a certain point, we were large enough to shift the focus from Stationary Scoop to a new Botanical PaperWorks blog with a small team to manage it. While I still have my personal blog, Botanical PaperWorks serves as our go-to resource for anyone looking for seed paper wedding invitations, favors, memorial products, stationery and much more.

We’re all about being stylish and green and I think our blog is a beautiful reflection of those core traits. We pride ourselves on creating interesting, original content and freebies, and also scouring the web for our favourite resources to share. We’re never salesy or pushy and consider ourselves friendly, focused and earnest – just like in real life.
