Our Favorite Moments From 2019

As another year ends, many of us are opening up our calendars, going over our goal’s lists, and planning for the future.

December is a busy month, with holiday celebrations in tow, so pausing to reflect and appreciate all we’ve done is a welcome break. Whether we learned a new skill, travelled somewhere new, deepened our existing relationships, or marked off a to-do on our bucket list, New Year’s is all about celebrating every moment, big and small.

In that spirit, we’re recognizing our team’s hard work and highlighting the experiences that helped us grow.

Here are some of our most memorable moments from 2019:

Travelling overseas to exhibit at two European trade shows

Our decision to exhibit at some of Europe’s largest trade shows didn’t come without careful consideration but it’s one we’re celebrating as we look back. Both trade shows had hundreds of attendees. PSI alone included an approximate 925 exhibitors from 38 countries spread over three enormous halls. Though our company felt small next to the other larger companies exhibiting, we made meaningful connections with people, stood out with our soil-covered display table, and started a buzz with our seed paper-making demonstrations. We’re looking forward to attending again in 2020.

Being announced as recipients of the Women Entrepreneurship Fund and receiving support from Western Economic Diversification Canada

The goal of the Women’s Entrepreneurship Fund is not only to empower women and advance gender equality but to benefit Canadians by fostering the growth of innovative businesses. Along with the fourteen other reputable brands from all across Canada, Botanical PaperWorks is proud to be chosen as a recipient. The fund is a huge vote of confidence in women and the businesses they are leading in Canada.

Telling our brand story in a video featured at World Trade Day Winnipeg

The theme of the event was Big Idea, Big Growth, Big World and Botanical PaperWorks was among the three innovative businesses to be featured. Working with Tripwire Media and WTC Winnipeg, Heidi Reimer-Epp told the story of how a mother-daughter duo took a leap of faith and built a thriving, global seed paper company together. Being featured on CTV’s The Social & Your Morning

When Toronto event planner Rebecca Wise and eco-journalist Candice Batista asked us for samples of Botanical PaperWorks’ seed paper wedding invitations to feature on CTV’s The Social & Your Morning, we nearly squealed with excitement.

Getting hand-selected by the experts was an honour. Seeing a top event planner and eco-journalist featuring eco-friendly wedding planning ideas was also motivating and inspiring for us.

Expanding the business into a neighboring space

After being in the same space for 11 years, we were getting ready to renew our lease for our current space and our landlord Bob Brown of Leon A. Brown let us know that space next door was available.

Serendipity must have been our ally because we had outgrown our current space, and the timing could not have been better. We didn’t want to leave Winnipeg’s downtown Exchange District, so the idea of simply expanding into a neighboring space was everything we dreamed.

Winning 3 Image Awards the PPPC National Convention

The PPPC Image Awards is an annual celebration that recognizes promotional product suppliers and distributors with unique products and programs developed in the previous year. This year we received our first gold trophy Most Creative New Promotional Product as well as two Bronze awards for Most Beneficial Sales & Marketing Aid and Made in Canada. Read more about the awards here>>

Heidi’s outgoing chair speech at the PPPC National Convention

A special moment at the Image Awards, incoming Chair Alex Jovetic presented Heidi with a plaque to commemorate her time on the PPPC board. The convention organizers welcomed her to the stage for her speech with warmth and enthusiasm from the crowd, which meant so much to her. Having had a productive 19 months serving on the board, taking a moment to reflect and celebrate was well deserved.

Welcoming several new people to the Botanical PaperWorks family

After our expansion, we had the room to welcome new members. Our team is one of our greatest assets, and this year we were blessed to add some truly amazing people to the team.

Launching our new logo and brand mark emblem

After being in business for over two decades and having the same logo for a good chunk of that time, we decided to take a calculated risk and re-brand. As scary as it was to change something so core to the business, we met the challenge head-on and are thrilled with the results.

Looking ahead

After all these exciting moments in 2019, our team is looking forward to what 2020 may bring. With new goals and new ideas to bring to life, we’ll be meeting 2020 with the same passion, focus, and commitment that has consistently helped us grow. Thank you to all those who continue to support our mission to grow good things for the planet and see you in 2020.
