Botanical PaperWorks makes it easy to make good choices for the environment by offering a wide array of zero-waste seed paper products and handmade gifts made with natural ingredients.

Being a sustainable company starts with our products and extends into our business practices, including our packaging.

Addressing the complexities surrounding sustainable packaging requires careful consideration and looking at the entire lifecycle of a product, from creation to use to disposal. Minimizing damage during shipping to avoid replacement orders is also important to reduce emissions.

With that in mind, our team has chosen four key principles that guide us when packaging our products.

Find out how eco-friendly seed paper can help make your subscription box or home delivery kit stand out from competitors.

Our guiding principles for product packaging:

1. Minimize packaging materials
We use as little packaging as possible, always prioritizing less material for a reduced environmental impact.

2. Prioritize recycled materials
We opt for packaging options made from recycled materials to promote circularity and resource conservation as much as we can.

3. Ensure product protection Materials used must protect the product during transit to minimize the risk of damage and possible replacement.

4. Emphasize end-of-life solutions
We give preference to materials that can be reused, repurposed, composted, or recycled at the end of their lifespan.

More information about our current practices:

1. Compact packaging
We use boxes and envelopes that snugly fit the product, minimizing the overall footprint of the order.

2. Bulk shipping
To reduce packaging material usage, we pack the entire order together instead of individually.

3. Recyclable outer packaging
All of our boxes and mailers are readily recyclable, ensuring easy disposal with other paper products.

4. Recyclable inner packaging
To minimize waste, we utilize our own paper cutoffs and cardboard instead of plastic or bubble wrap to cushion products when necessary. For added protection, sometimes poly bags are necessary; these can be returned to retailers or accepted at drop-off sites in most cities.

5. Recyclable, biodegradable, and compostable bags
We currently package many outgoing orders in kraft paper bags that are recyclable, biodegradable, and fully compostable.

6. Box reuse
To further reduce waste, we make use of high-quality boxes that still have life in them, repurposing them for subsequent shipments.

As the landscape of packaging materials evolves we are committed to reducing packaging waste and taking advantage of advances in materials and information. As we opt for new solutions, we’ll be sure to share them with you here.
